Missionvale Clinic and Missionvale Care Centre partner in Health Project
Monday, February 7th, 2011Missionvale Clinic, founded by Sr Ethel twenty years ago and run by Nelson Mandela Bay Municipal Heath Authority, treats hundreds of the poor and sick residents of this shackland area each day. Its premises are crowded and waiting queus stand and sit patiently for many hours before being seen.
In 2008 Missionvale Care Centre, through the kindness and energy of a dedicated group of Volunteers and Organisers from Co Clare in Ireland, built a magnificent Resource Centre for the provision of health and welfare programs for the sick in mind and body.
Missionvale Care Centre has now joined hands with the overcrowded Clinic next door. From Feb 2011, the Resource Centre will house a new unit, staffed by Clinic Sisters and Nurses and our own qualified nursing staff, and so significantly improve the lives of the sick and suffering residents of this area.

Sr Bulewa Kebe and Volunteer Nurse Mavis Manyathi consult with their first patient of the morning. Outside, another fifty wait patiently.
The following services will now offered Mondays to Fridays:
· TB Clinic
· Voluntary Counselling and Testing for HIV
· Antenatal Clinic
· Baby immunisation clinic
· Readiness programme for Antiretroviral Treatment (ART)
· Chronic reviews
· Drawing blood for testing / investigation
Beds and Duvets are distributed
Sunday, February 6th, 2011There was feverish excitement as the 1st of the Fold Up beds and Duvets, donated by the people of Ireland, were distributed to the most needy in Missionvale Township.
The Caregivers from Missionvale Township had spent the month of December 2010 identifying where the need for the beds was greatest, and these needy people were then placed at the top of the list to receive their beds once the container arrived.
Volunteers from Ireland were then on hand to distribute the beds to the more than grateful inhabitants of the township.
Sr. Ethel receives Certificate of Honour
Friday, January 28th, 2011
On Monday, 24 January 2011, Sister Ethel was most surprised when the Mayor of Port Elizabeth, Zanoxolo Wayile, walked into the Boardroom at Missionvale Care Centre!
A whole entourage followed – the Editor in Chief of the local newspaper, The Herald , the Managing Director of the Boardwalk Casino & restaurant complex, Mr Clifford Ngakane, the chairperson of the Boardwalk, Bongie Sowisa.
The occasion? Sr Ethel was the recipient of a Certificate of Honour for her passion, dedication, sacrifice and humanitarian effort for the people of Missionvale.

Chairperson Missionvale Ireland, Ollie O Loughlin, explains the Co. Clare connection to the PE Mayor
It was a great opportunity for some Trustees of Missionvale Ireland who had just completed a 10 day visit to Missionvale Care Centre, including Chairperson Ollie O Loughlin, to meet with the Mayor and the Herald Newspaper Editor, and witness this historic event with their fellow Clarewoman.
Below is a copy of the wording on the award
NELSON MANDELA BAY
MUNICIPALITY
CERTIFICATE OF HONOUR
On behalf of the citizens of Nelson Mandela Bay, I, Executive Mayor of the Nelson Mandela Bay, Councillor Zanoxolo Wayile, would hereby like to take this opportunity to thank you for the passion and dedication you have contributed for the people of Missionvale Care Centre over the past 23 years.
Your sacrifice and humanitarian effort you have displayed towards your fellow human beings has not gone unnoticed. What you have achieved working under challenging conditions, is phenomenal.
You are an inspiration to so many people, locally, nationally and internationally and a blessing to the community of Missionvale.
Today, 24 January 2011, with love, respect and gratitude, I salute you and confer a certificate of honour to you, Sister Ethel Normoyle, for your humanitarian contribution to the people of Missionvale.
The late World Renowned Catholic Nun and philanthropist, Mother Teresa once said: “Let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier. Be the living expression of God’s kindness in your face, in your eyes, kindness in your smile.” In all your years fighting for the poor, you have displayed great kindness and generosity.
I encourage you, your employees, volunteers and sponsors to keep up your fight against poverty and the HIV / Aids pandemic.
Yours sincerely,
Honourable Executive Mayor
Councillor Zanoxolo Wayile
Wish List Container Arrives on schedule
Friday, January 28th, 2011It was mixed feelings of excitement and relief for the volunteers from Co Clare as the 20 ft container pulled into Missionvale Care Centre last week.
The container had been filled with supplies drawn from a WISHLIST compiled by Sr Ethel and her team of Caregivers at the Care Centre in Missionvale. Many Primary schools across the county collected pens, pencils, books, copies, calculators, crayons and other stationary supplies. Thousands of plastic bags were donated, along with medical supplies and computers.
The container then made its way from the Quin Road in Ennis via Cork to Port Elizabeth, where it cleared customs, and was then transported to the Missionvale Care Centre, in time to be unloaded by the 12 volunteers from Missionvale Ireland who travelled out to work alongside Sr Ethel in Jan 2011.
Bed & Duvet Set Initiative
Wednesday, December 1st, 2010
Should ANY child have to sleep on the ground every night?
That is the reality for thousands of children in Missionvale year round.
Missionvale Ireland have launched HELP GET MISSIONVALE OFF THE GROUND - an initiative to provide as many children as possible with their own fold-up bed.
A prototype of this bed was sent to Sr. Ethel and her team in early August 2010, and after various alterations and product ammendments, we are now in a position to ship hundreds of Customised BEDS, DUVETS and DUVET COVERS directly to MISSIONVALE TOWNSHIP.
YOU can purchase a BED, DUVET & DUVET COVER for only €30.
