Missionvale Clinic and Missionvale Care Centre partner in Health Project

Monday, February 7th, 2011

Missionvale Clinic, founded by Sr Ethel twenty years ago and run by Nelson Mandela Bay Municipal Heath Authority, treats hundreds of the poor and sick residents of this shackland area each day. Its premises are crowded and waiting queus stand and sit patiently for many hours before being seen.

In 2008 Missionvale Care Centre, through the kindness and energy of a dedicated group of Volunteers and Organisers from Co Clare in Ireland, built a magnificent Resource Centre for the provision of health and welfare programs for the sick in mind and body.

Missionvale Care Centre has now joined hands with the overcrowded Clinic next door. From Feb 2011, the Resource Centre will house a new unit, staffed by Clinic Sisters and Nurses and our own qualified nursing staff, and so significantly improve the lives of the sick and suffering residents of this area.

The Caregivers from Missionvale Township had spent the month of December 2010 identifying where the need for the beds was greatest, and these needy people were then placed at the top of the list to receive their beds once the container arrived.

On behalf of the citizens of Nelson Mandela Bay, I, Executive Mayor of the Nelson Mandela Bay, Councillor Zanoxolo Wayile, would hereby like to take this opportunity to thank you for the passion and dedication you have contributed for the people of Missionvale Care Centre over the past 23 years.

Your sacrifice and humanitarian effort you have displayed towards your fellow human beings has not gone unnoticed.  What you have achieved working under challenging conditions, is phenomenal.

I encourage you, your employees, volunteers and sponsors to keep up your fight against poverty and the HIV / Aids pandemic.

Yours sincerely,

Wish List Container Arrives on schedule

Friday, January 28th, 2011

Container from Co Clare arrives in Missionvale

Container from Co Clare arrives in Missionvale

It was mixed feelings of excitement and relief for the volunteers from Co Clare as the 20 ft container pulled into Missionvale Care Centre last week.

The container had been filled with supplies drawn from a WISHLIST compiled by Sr Ethel and her team of Caregivers at the Care Centre in Missionvale. Many Primary schools across the county collected pens, pencils, books, copies, calculators, crayons and other stationary supplies. Thousands of plastic bags were donated, along with medical supplies and computers.

The container then made its way from the Quin Road in Ennis via Cork to Port Elizabeth, where it cleared customs, and was then transported to the Missionvale Care Centre, in time to be unloaded by the 12 volunteers from Missionvale Ireland who travelled out to work alongside Sr Ethel in Jan 2011.

Bed & Duvet Set Initiative

Bed and Duvet Set

Should ANY child have to sleep on the ground every night?

That is the reality for thousands of children in Missionvale year round.

Missionvale Ireland have launched HELP GET MISSIONVALE OFF THE GROUND - an initiative to provide as many children as possible with their own fold-up bed.

A prototype of this bed was sent to Sr. Ethel and her team in early August 2010, and after various alterations and product ammendments, we are now in a position to ship hundreds of Customised BEDS, DUVETS and DUVET COVERS directly to MISSIONVALE TOWNSHIP.

YOU can purchase a BED, DUVET & DUVET COVER for only €30.
